Immunology; Research Ethics

For most of my professional career my research activities have focused on microbial immunity—how the body defends itself against microbial aggression. In recent years I have become increasingly associated with the field of research ethics. I have developed and taught a course on research and related ethical issues for upper level undergraduate students in the biological sciences and, with a colleague, a graduate level, multidisciplinary course on research ethics. I have served as a faculty adviser for grants to the University related to developing instructional tools for research ethics. I have also participated in development and review of proposed federal programs for establishing policies for inclusion of training in research ethics for grant recipients.

I currently serve as the Faculty Director of the Discovery Program for Undergraduate Education.
